Maintenance Logs

You can now Log Maintenance from within the app and view the Tasks associated with each service interval. We’ve added a view to see the Service History for each Asset, and you can view the Total Cost of Maintenance for your fleet or for individual Assets.

Asset Search using Barcode scanner

We’ve added the ability to find Assets using the barcode scanner on the Asset Search screen. Customers can affix any type of barcode (line, QR code, DataMatrix, etc) to their Assets and easily find those Assets using the built-in scanner in the app.

From the Locations menu, you can now see the Assets that are currently within the selected Location, and focus on any Asset using the Asset slider for that Location.

Account Hierarchy 1

In TeMeDa app v2.11 we have added support for customers to create their own Account Hierarchies. This feature allows a TeMeDa ‘parent’ account to create ‘child’ customer accounts, and those child customer accounts can also have their own child accounts. Admins can create any number of child accounts within 3 levels. Users can then be created and assigned to individual child accounts. Assets assigned to the parent account can be re-assigned down to child accounts. Account Hierarchy allows for clear separation of Assets, Users, Groups, Projects, Locations, Zones, Alerts, and Maintenance amongst the various business units, regions and departments within an organization. Account Hierarchy can be accessed by account Admins using the Admin, Account, Account Hierarchy menu.

   Example 1: A large corporation with multiple Regions and Departments

Parent Company ACME Logistics has 2 regions: Midwest and East. The Midwest region has 2 Departments: Operations and Logistics. The East region also has 2 Departments: Sales and Marketing. ACME parent company can assign Assets to each child Region, and each Region can re-assign those assets down to individual Departments. In this scenario, the Midwest Region has no visibility to the Assets in the East Region and vice versa. Also, the Midwest Operations Department has no visibility to Assets in the Midwest Logistics Department or any other Department.

   Example 2: An OEM Manufacturer with multiple Dealerships and Customers

Parent Company ACME Equipment has 50 dealerships with each dealership selling products to many customers: ACME Equipment can create child accounts for each dealership. Each dealership can have its own Assets, Users, Groups, Alerts, etc that are separate from the parent account. Each dealership is isolated for others dealerships information. ACME Equipment can provide each of its dealerships with a secure and separate telematics solution. In turn, each dealership can offer this same service to its own customers. Each customer is isolated from all other customers.

   Example 3: A mid-size company with many customers:

Parent Company ACME Rentals has 100 customers: ACME Rentals can create child accounts for each customer. Each customer can have its own Assets, Users, Groups, Alerts, etc that are separate from the parent account. Each customer is isolated from other customer accounts. ACME Rentals can provide each of its customers with a secure and separate telematics solution.

User Impersonation

Admins can now impersonate any Non-Admin users, and can impersonate both Admins and Non-Admins in child account hierarchies. This way, an Admin can replicate the experience of a user within his organization, without asking that user for his/her credentials. This allows Admins the ability to verify the accessibility of Assets, Groups, Locations, etc for any User. User impersonation is especially useful for simulating the experience of users within child account hierarchies.

Primary Asset

Assets can now have a “Primary Asset”. Only Primary Assets are displayed on the Map. This is useful for Assets that have multiple telematics devices installed on a single vehicle or piece of equipment. When multiple assets in the system are associated to a single Primary Asset, the Map will only display the Primary Assets so as to not clutter up the Map.

New Alert: Location Time-Limit Exceeded

The new “Location Time-Limit Exceeded” Alert will trigger when one or more assets is located within a geo-fence Location greater than the configured time period in hours.

New Alert: Location In/Out

The new “Location In/Out” Alert will trigger when one or more assets goes in or out of a geo-fence Location. This alert allows a simpler approach to the process of setting up both a “Location Entry” and a “Location Exit” alert for customers who want to know when an Asset enters and leaves a location.

Barcode Scanner

The TeMeDa smartphone app and the TeMeDa Installer app now allow you to scan the telematics device serial number barcode when adding or editing Assets. This will allow Admins and Installers with the ability to quickly select devices without having to scroll through long lists of serial numbers and will help prevent the wrong device from getting entered into the app.

APIs

Currently there are main 4 APIs offered on the TeMeDa API Portal:

AEMP API

The AEMP (Association of Equipment Management Professionals) API for use with the TeMeDa telematics solution. The AEMP OEM Integration Service will pull specified engine and location information from an OEM provider into your TeMeDa account. The OEM Assets will appear on the map, and can be included on Alerts, History Trail, Reports, Maintenance, etc. The data is formatted according to the AEMP (Association of Equipment Management Professionals) standard version 1.0 in xml. Includes Lat, Long, Cumulative Operating Hours, Idle Hours, and Distance (Odometer). http://www.aemp.org/ Customers who wish to setup the AEMP OEM Integration service will need to provide TeMeDa with valid credentials and url to their OEM AEMP feed. Please contact TeMeDa customer support for more information.

Telemetry API

A collection of RESTful JSON-based operations for use with the TeMeDa telematics solution. The Telemetry API provides Asset information, Locations, Reports, Maintenance, History Trails, Alerts, and more.

TeMeDa Admin API

A collection of RESTful JSON-based operations for use with the TeMeDa telematics solution that allows administrative functions such as Add, Edit and Delete operations to your TeMeDa account data.

TeMeDa PUSH Service API

The TeMeDa Push Service API is a real-time data interface based on industry standard JSON and HTTP web operations. This interface is being offered to customers and service providers who intend to integrate their systems with TeMeDa and wish to receive real-time telemetry data updates as they occur within the TeMeDa telematics system. Customers are required to create a HTTP/JSON listener in order to receive data.

Getting Started:

Usage of the TeMeDa APIs requires authentication and authorization. To start, it is necessary to sign-up on the TeMeDa API Portal (https://temeda.portal.azure-api.net) and subscribe to one or more API Products. Once your subscription is approved, you will be given an Authorization token, Environment Code, and a Subscription Key. You must use these credentials to execute API calls to the TeMeDa API.

The TeMeDa API Portal documents each API call, including every operation available, the request url, required input fields and/or body, and sample Response JSON data. There is also a Code Sample generator that will generate the each API call in Curl, C#, Java, Javascript, ObjC, PHP, Python, and Ruby.

The TeMeDa APIs use standard units of measure for either US/Imperial or Metric. The API can also be configured for a specific TimeZone:

  1. To get the current actual Odometer and Engine hours for an Asset, use the following fields from the Device object contained within an Asset object:

Note: The Estimated fields above are calculated by adding the odometer or engine hours to the User entered offset from the Asset Detail page (Basic and Source Setting Tabs). The Estimated values are sourced according to the corresponding “OdometerSource” or “EngineHoursFromEngineBus” fields.

  1. “Total” fields are cumulative/lifetime values.
  2. Maintenance Plans – “TimeInterval” unit of measure is in days.
  3. Report Summary section – duration units of measure are in seconds.

TeMeDa Native App version 1.0 for mobile is here! Harness the power of TeMeDa vehicle and asset management in the palm of your hand!

Description:

TeMeDa is an asset tracking, monitoring and management solution for a wide variety of powered and un-powered assets such as cars, trucks, tractors, trailers, construction equipment, cranes, excavators, generators, shipping containers and much more. TeMeDa transforms your fleet data into useful information and actionable intelligence. You can locate and monitor your assets, reduce costs, improve utilization, and maximize productivity. TeMeDa is a comprehensive mixed-fleet GPS telematics solution that is simple to use and easy to install.

The new TeMeDa Native App is a powerful asset management tool available on your Android or Apple smartphone. You must be an existing TeMeDa customer to launch the TeMeDa Native App. Some of the TeMeDa Native App features include:

TeMeDa Native App 1.0.0 Release Features

After a successful login, the TeMeDa Native App Home screen will appear. The Home screen provides quick access to the most common features of the app. You can easily return to the Home screen by tapping the Home icon within the app.

  1. Assets – displays a searchable list of all your Assets with basic information and provides drill-down capability to view all Asset details including History Trail, Alerts, Maintenance, and Driver information.
  2. Map – displays a map of all your Assets.
  3. Menu – quick access to Drivers, Groups, Projects, Locations, Zones, and Unassigned Devices.
  4. Alerts – displays all company-wide alerts in the past 24 hours.
  5. Pulse – displays a dashboard of your company’s Pulse: Alerts and Asset Utilization in the past 7 days.
  6. Maintenance – displays the overall Maintenance Status for each asset in your fleet – what’s Due, Overdue, and Not Due.

The Pulse screen provides a quick dashboard overview of your fleet’s pulse – which includes the number of Alerts in the last 24 hours and your Asset Utilization in the past 24 hours along with a bar graph of utilization over the last 7 days.

Maintenance

The Maintenance screen provides a quick dashboard overview of your fleet’s maintenance status – showing all Assets that have been associated to service plans and when each asset is due for maintenance. You can easily filter each category by tapping the All, Overdue, Due, or Not Due tabs.

TeMeDa App 2.10.0 Release Features

The TeMeDa web portal now supports both Imperial and Metric units of measure. Individual users may now set their preferred unit of measure. The units of measure will be displayed throughout the system including the Asset Popup, Dashboard, Alerts, Maintenance, and Reports.

1.1.  Smart Witness Camera Enhancements

History Trail Snapshot and Video Retrieval

To help make it easier to find specific video footage of a past event, Fleet Managers can now pull up the History Trail for a SmartWitness camera Asset, then select a breadcrumb point and click the “Snapshot” button. The system will rapidly retrieve a photo image snapshot at the requested date/time. This will allow the fleet manager to quickly determine if this is the correct timeframe he or she is looking for.

After a Snapshot is retrieved, the system continues to load additional Snapshots in 1 second intervals from that time forward. There is also a new time slider widget that allows you to easily request additional Snapshots within a range of the original date/time.

The retrieval of a Snapshot is a quicker operation than downloading a full video file. You can quickly go back and forth through the history trail and the Snapshot Viewer time slider widget to pinpoint the correct time frame and then request a full video for the chosen time.

SmartWitness Camera – Severe Shock Events and Alert

When a SmartWitness camera experiences a severe shock event (over 3 G’s of gravitational force), the camera will automatically create a Severe Shock Event and upload the video to the temeda.com system. Users can also create Alerts/Notifications based upon this event.

2.  Calamp 4230 DTC Events (JPOD2) for ELD Solution

The Calamp 4230 model used in the Temeda ELD solution has now added the capture and display of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Users can leverage the existing DTC alerts, reports, and display of engine fault codes and descriptions within temeda.com.

3.  New Report: Asset Utilization By Hour

The Asset Utilization By Hour report allows users to analyze how many assets are running per hour per day for a selected time frame. The report displays a graphic line chart and 24 hour heat map of the most active hours for your fleet. You can also see the Average # of active Assets per hour and the Daily Average.

4.  Source Settings for Engine Hours, Odometer, Speed

There is a new tab on the Asset Detail page called “Source Settings”. From this tab, admins can choose the source for Engine Hours, Odometer, and Speed for an asset.

  1. Engine Hours – Select where you want the Engine Hours reading to come from – the Engine Bus VCM/ECM/CAN BUS (true Engine Hours) or the GPS/Telematics Device (Calculated Engine Hours). The app will display the current values for each, and the usage for the past 2 weeks. Using this information, the app will recommend a Source Setting for the Asset you have selected.
  2. Odometer: Select where you want the Odometer reading to come from – the Engine Bus (true Engine Odometer), the GPS/Telematics Device (GPS Odometer), or VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor Odometer). The app will display the current values for each, and the usage for the past 2 weeks. Using this information, the app will recommend a Source Setting for the Asset you have selected.
  3. Speed: Select where you want the Speed reading to come from – the Engine Bus (true Engine Speed), or the GPS/Telematics Device (GPS Speed). The app will display the current values for each, and the usage for the past 2 weeks. Using this information, the app will recommend a Source Setting for the Asset you have selected.

5.  Reporting Enhancements & New Idle by RPM Report

  1. Fleet Summary Report – We have added logic to take power losses in to consideration when summarizing idle time in this report. Available with the next release.
  2. Idle RPM Report – This is a new report that allows users to select the RPM used by the report. Available with the next release.
  3. Idle Report – We have added logic to take power losses in to consideration when summarizing idle time in this report.
  4. Activity Detail Report Export – Stop Time, Idle Time, and Engine Time are now stored as numbers (seconds) and formatted in the Excel export as time.

6.  UI Scalability Enhancements

For Customers with many Assets, Groups, Projects, Locations, or Zones – we have made User Interface enhancements that allow these entities to scale to hundreds or thousands to meet the needs of our customers as their fleets and number of tracked Assets grow. The new enhancements will allow growth without affecting the performance of the site when trying to find and display Assets, Groups, Projects, Locations, or Zones. All items in the Accordion will be paged in sets of 100 to accommodate the growth and minimize the performance impact on the site.

7.  Installer App 1.3

The TeMeDa Installer app was modified to allow for installations of various telematics hardware such as Morey MC-1’s and SmartWitness Cameras. The app will detect and display the device type and will modify the required fields based upon the device type. For example, when installing an MC-1 and creating the Asset in the Installer App, the Odometer, Engine Hours and Harness Type fields are no longer required.

Texas Boll Weevil Case Study

Texas Bool Weevil Eradication Foundation (TBWEF) incorporates TeMeDa and ESRI to monitor asset location, sprayer engagement and chemical coverage in the battle against the boll weevil.

Led by Western Data Systems, an authorized distributor of TeMeDa products and services, the TBWEF uses TeMeDa technology to gain insight into its eradication fleet and equipment.

The Boll Weevil Eradication Program, sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is one of the world’s most successful implementations of an integrated pest management program. Cotton farmers have been able to reduce their use of pesticides by anywhere between 40% and 100% and increase their yield by 10% since the program began. The first full implementation began in Virginia and South Carolina in 1978 and spread west. By the early 90’s Texas Cotton Producers, Incorporated working with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and drafted a Boll Weevil Eradication plan for the State of Texas.

Driver Safety:

TeMeDa’s new 2.7.0 release is all about Driver Safety and Driver Behavior.  TeMeDa now offers insights into how your assets are being used by operators and drivers.  Ensure your Drivers Operators are working with optimal efficiency and in a safe manner.  To help with this, we’ve created 2 new reports in the TeMeDa App: Driver Safety Summary and Driver Safety Detail. There are 4 metrics in Driver Safety reports that are calculated for you:

  • Driver Safety Score: Driver Safety Events per 100 Miles Driven.
  • Speeding Event: Set by you when you run a Driver Safety report. Defaults to 75 mph but can be changed from report to report.
  • Harsh Braking: Harsh braking is when the difference in speed is of 11 mph per second. A drop from 60 mph to 48 mph in 1 second will trigger a Harsh Braking event. This can be reconfigured to be a different value by contacting TeMeDa.
  • Harsh Acceleration: Harsh Acceleration is when the difference in speed of 9 mph per second. A change from 10 mph to 20 mph in 1 second will trigger a Harsh Acceleration event. This can be reconfigured to be a different value by contacting TeMeDa.

Driver Safety Summary Report

The Driver Safety Summary Report will show your Fleet Safety Scorecard for your entire fleet along with the scores of each driver. You can adjust the top speed threshold for speeding events, and the report will total harsh accelerations, braking, and harsh maneuver events. Driver Scores are calculated as the # of Safety Events per 100 miles driven. The Report also shows Max Speed, Total Miles, and Driver Safety Risk Level per Fleet and Driver.

Driver Safety Detail Report

The Driver Safety Detail Report will show the driver safety event details and scores of each driver. You can adjust the top speed threshold for speeding events, and the report will total harsh accelerations, braking, and harsh maneuver events.

Asset Detail Page Updates

The Asset Detail page now allows you to assign a Vehicle Class to an Asset to aid in planning, maintenance and compliance.

Hours of Service (HoS) was introduced by the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1938 with the intent of reducing accidents caused by commercial vehicles due to driver fatigue by limiting the number of hours an operator is allowed to drive on a daily and weekly basis. Compliance with these regulations has been managed for years on paper; however, these paper logs are cumbersome, often lack complete data, and are not always completely accurate.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the successor to the Interstate Commerce Commission, announced the latest iteration of HoS, the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate, on December 16, 2015.  This new regulation dictates that most commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) must be equipped with either an Automated On-Board Recorder Device (AOBRD) or an ELD solution by the end of 2017 and all CMVs will need to be fully compliant with the ELD mandate by the end of 2019.  AOBRD and ELD solutions utilize electronic hardware and software to interface with the vehicle data bus to pull: VIN, Speed, Engine Hours, Engine RPM, and Odometer that is combined with vehicle inspection and driver duty status data to create automated Driver Daily Logs (DDLs).  These automated DDLs are then displayed on mobile devices and are intended to enhance the accuracy of the HoS information associated with each vehicle’s driver.

The deadlines associated with this mandate are:

  • December 16, 2015 – FMCSA publishes in final ELD Rule
  • December 18, 2017 – Use of “Paper” Logs must switch to either an AOBRD or ELD solution
  • December 16, 2019 – Drivers using AOBRD solutions must switch to an ELD solution

The ELD mandate automates the data collection and reporting mandated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) authorities.  All paper logs as a primary source must be replaced by an electronic solution on or before December 18th, 2017.

TeMeDa offers both an AOBRD and an ELD solution for HoS that includes certified hardware and a web compliant application for mobile display devices (smartphone or tablet) that creates the automated Driver Daily Logs (DDLs).  For our current customers we will be able to expand their current product solution to include AOBRD on most trucks that have already been installed.  For new installations Temeda is offering both AOBRD and ELD solutions.
